Just under an hour’s drive from Lagoon Pocket B&B is the normally quiet little country town of Goomeri. But on the last Sunday in May this sleepy hamlet comes alive with its annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival. This year it is the 20th birthday of the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival on Sunday 29th May and the line up of all things pumpkin makes for a very full agenda!
Of course there will be the famous Pumpkin Roll at 2pm, where “rollers” send their trusty pumpkins down the steepest street in town. This is great fun to watch from a safe distance, preferably the top of the street, as some of those pumpkins try to make a break for freedom on their way down! Other pumpkin highlights include the Decorated and Giant Pumpkin competitions, Pumpkin bowls, Pumpkin Pull, Pumpkin Power Shotput ??!! so you don’t actually have to enjoy eating pumpkin to have fun!
But if you do enjoy eating, not necessarily pumpkin, you are well catered for with numerous food stalls and celebrity chefs Matt Golinski and Jason Ford doing a cooking show at midday.
If pumpkins really, really don’t float your boat there is pig racing, reptile shows, live music, puppet theatre and belly dancing to keep you well amused and away from all us pumpkin fans!
