It had been a long time in the planning and construction but on Saturday 1st April 2017 the doors to Gympie’s Aquatic Recreation Centre finally opened to much fanfare. Of course we had to go along and see what all the fuss had been about and I am proud to report the finished product is a stunner. Well worth the wait. In fact I think most of the population of Gympie and surrounds were there for a sticky-beak!
As the title suggests the Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre is more than just a nice swimming pool. It comprises a 50m outdoor pool, a 25m eight lane heated indoor pool, two tube waterslide, zero depth splash play area, fitness centre, cafeteria, grandstand and plenty of shade. I was delighted to see that aqua aerobics and swim fit classes will be held in the indoor pool. The gym is beautifully positioned to overlook the pools, something to watch whilst on the treadmill! A lot of thought has clearly gone into the construction and it shows.
